I received the 10 million dollard award in 1998. Since then the CBR has changed the game and required me to be on a committee in the year I apply for and receive the 25 million dollar award. I don’t have time nor do I have the interest to be on a committee.(maybe if I had a “team” or multiple assistants I would have time!) Why should a production award be tied to service? Realtors like me should have been grandfathered in. I probably have over 50 million in sales by now, but refuse to jump through the hoops.

The whole process should be more simple. Since the broker is responsible for the the true and accurate reporting of all transactions, why can’t we as agents simply print out a report at the end of each year showing our production (supplementing with new build transaction proof)? If fraud is found it would be on the broker. Stiff penalties would prevent fraud.

My belief is that the consumer could care less about all of this. These awards are really for the realtors. As a group, we know who the “good” ones are. The consumer thinks a “million dollar” award producer has made that much. It’s self defeating. They think we make too much, and we don’t help by bragging about dollar production. We should be more concerned about designations (education) and happy clients/customers.

As far as the awards for “teams” it quite simple. For every transaction there is 1 sales “credit” –2 realtors-50% each, 3 realtors 50%/25%/25%–etc. If the percentages add up to more than 100% then there is a problem.

For all of you worried about how the awards credits are divied up, I think you should be spending your time on more important things!

My name does not show up in MLS on listings or solds. I have my team name on everything, not my name. I am trying to brand my sales group. I think you should allow the agents name or group name on all award forms.

The first post really says it all for me.
In addition, I would do away with the 1 Million $ award and begin @ 5.
1 mil was a strong number when we had 50k average sales prices…but today, it doesn’t really mean so much.

  4. Michael Koehler Says:

I also feel that a sales award should not be tied to service to the board. If you want to develop a
service award, go for it. This blue ink rule is nonsense. That would mean agents would have to
go back and fill out the forms all over again. Why can’t we just rely on the MLS data? If the data
is incorrect, issue a fine! Are these awards that important that people are filling out fraudulent
    applications?

  5. Jeff Jonas Says:

I understand the point that a buyers agent working for a team getting 25% but I do not think it is valid. They are handling all of the fiduciary duties of a single agent and therefore should not be penalized for joining a team. On that same line a Single agent that has formed a team to streamline his/her business should not be penalized for making good business decisions. The committee involved with making the rules for this should really step back and say to themselves is this for the better or is this trying to make it more difficult so that there are fewer that make the award. Unfortunately I think it is only for the latter. The Committee meetings I disagree with most of the others involved, because I do think there should be more involvement especially when it comes to CORPAC. Do we really need blue ink the answer is NO. I believe to qualify you should only need a HUD and Sold sheet from MLS along with a signed sheet by the closing title agent. What next? the whole contrract along with all of the counters to prove that you earned your 50%…Lets get real and focus.

I think it is the job of the CBR to make it easy for Realtors to qualify for the awards and recognitions they work so hard to receive. Everyone enjoys receiving recognition for their work. Blue ink?
This is just wrong. MLS data, HUD sheet, certificate signed by title company. More than enough. It is the job of the CBR to support us, to encourage us and to make our job
easier, not harder. We should not be forced to serve on a committee. Now you have committee chairs saying, “I know a lot of you are here just because you want to get
your award.” Well, since they have made that a requirement, that would be the case. Help us, support us, cheer us on, don’t make our lives more difficult.

The issue of less credit if you have support confuses me. If you’re doing the work, why does it matter? People who are unlicensed can do a great deal of the background work, which allows you to do more. The same for licensed help. Why get penalized for using licensed people? If anything, we should encourage realtors to have licensed support. This actually discourages Realtors to use licensed help.
